Network System Engineer, Break/Fix

Summary
CHS has an exciting opportunity within the Information Technology group for an experienced Network Engineer to support enterprise network and firewall infrastructure across a complex, multi-site environment. This role is focused on network service reliability, incident response, and advanced troubleshooting to ensure secure, highly available network connectivity. The engineer plays a critical role in restoring service during high-severity incidents and strengthening overall network stability through root cause analysis and continuous improvement. This position partners closely with Senior Network Engineers, Major Incident Managers, and cross-functional IT teams to support operational excellence across the CHS enterprise.
To be considered for this role, qualified candidates must currently reside in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN metro area in order to work a hybrid schedule (3-days per week) at our corporate office located in Inver Grove Heights, MN.
Responsibilities
Network Reliability and Technical Support
- Proactively monitor, manage, and respond to network incidents and break/fix issues.
- Troubleshoot Cisco LAN/WAN, routing, switching, and wireless network environments.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting of firewalls including policy behavior, network address translation (NAT), routing, VPN connectivity, and traffic flow analysis.
- Implement configuration changes during incidents to restore service following established procedures.
- Configure, deploy, replace, and support routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless network equipment.
- Participate in an on-call rotation approximately once every seven weeks.
Incident Response and Service Restoration
- Work collaboratively with Senior Network Engineers and Major Incident Managers during high-severity outages.
- Provide hands-on technical troubleshooting, remediation, validation, and remediation during active incidents.
- Deliver timely and accurate technical updates for active incidents and problems.
- Participate in post-incident reviews, root-cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
Process, Governance and Continuous Improvement
- Operate within ITIL-aligned Incident, Request, Change, and Problem Management processes.
- Use ServiceNow or similar ITSM tools to document incidents, requests, root causes, and corrective actions.
- Identify opportunities to reduce repeat incidents and improve operational workflows.
- Develop and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and knowledge articles.
Communication, Collaboration and Safety
- Partner with network, security, infrastructure, and vendor teams during troubleshooting and escalations.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with technical teams and leadership.
- Promote and uphold a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- High School Diploma (or equivalent)
- 2+ years of experience in network operations, NOC, or break/fix network/firewall roles including:
- Hands-on experience making production network changes during incidents
- Configuration and deployment enterprise network hardware
Additional Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology Management, or related field
- Palo Alto (PCNSA or PCNSE) or other firewall certifications
- Cisco CCNA certification
- Experience supporting major incidents or high-severity outage response
- Experience working within ITIL-aligned service management frameworks
- ServiceNow experience
- Familiar with Solarwinds Orion or similar network monitoring tools
- Scripting or automation experience
- Network packet capture analysis

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
