Summary
CHS, Inc. has an exciting opportunity within our Transportation and Logistics team for a Director, Supply Chain and Logistics. This leadership role will provide strategic direction and oversight across CHS transportation and logistics, including sales, brokerage, dispatch, carrier sales, account management, pricing, private fleet optimization, and network strategy. The Director will be accountable for integrating commercial and operational capabilities to drive profitable growth, optimize asset and non-asset capacity, improve service and execution, and strengthen CHS’s competitive position in the transportation market.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for logistics sales, brokerage, dispatch, carrier sales, pricing, account management, and network optimization functions.
- Support private fleet optimization, balancing service, asset utilization, cost, capacity, and profitability across the transportation network.
- Drive service and execution excellence, establishing consistent operating disciplines and accountability across dispatch, fleet, brokerage, and carrier operations.
- Develop and execute strategies that support profitable growth, operational efficiency, exceptional customer service, and long-term transportation competitiveness.
- Lead the commercialization of the private fleet, identifying opportunities to leverage available fleet capacity to generate incremental third-party revenue and improve overall asset returns.
- Own external customer market pricing strategy, ensuring transportation pricing reflects market conditions, capacity dynamics, service requirements, and targeted profitability.
- Provide strategic leadership for carrier sales, developing and optimizing a high-performing third-party carrier network that expands capacity, improves service, and supports profitable growth.
- Lead transportation customer account management, including customer segmentation, relationship development, service performance, retention, growth opportunities, and overall account profitability.
- Develop and execute an integrated asset vs. non-asset transportation strategy, determining the optimal use of CHS private fleet, dedicated capacity, brokerage, and third-party carriers based on economics, service requirements, seasonality, and network needs.
- Align sales, dispatch, pricing, brokerage, fleet, and account-management activities to ensure consistent communication, streamlined decision-making, and competitive market positioning.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators across service, cost, asset utilization, revenue, margin, customer performance, carrier performance, and network efficiency to drive continuous improvement.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for process improvement, network expansion, cost savings, revenue growth, and improved customer experience.
- Evaluate transportation market trends, customer needs, pricing dynamics, and capacity opportunities to support long-term business objectives and inform commercial and operational strategy.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, carriers, and strategic business partners.
- Lead and develop high-performing teams while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, commercial thinking, and operational excellence.
- Support strategic initiatives that enhance organizational agility and improve the ability to respond to seasonal business demands.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- High School diploma or GED
- 7+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, brokerage, or related operational functions
- Prior leadership experience with progressively advancing level of leadership responsibilities
Additional Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Transportation, Operations Management, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience preferred in transportation, logistics, supply chain, brokerage, or related operational functions.
- Entrepreneurial spirit with a desire to lead and inspire a growing team through transformation within a fortune 100 organization.
- Demonstrated experience leading multiple functions and managing complex business operations.
- Strong financial, analytical, and strategic planning capabilities.
- Experience leading transportation sales, brokerage, carrier management, dispatch, and pricing functions.
- Knowledge of fleet operations, carrier network management, and transportation optimization strategies.
- Experience developing and implementing large-scale operational improvement initiatives.
- Strong commercial acumen and understanding of transportation market dynamics.
- Experience leveraging data and technology solutions to improve decision-making and operational performance. Excellent communication, relationship management, negotiation, and leadership skills.
- Experience supporting organizations with significant seasonal fluctuations in transportation demand.

Physical Requirements

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
