Summary
CHS Inc. is hiring for an exiciting opportunity at our oil refinery in McPherson, KS as a Turnaround Manager to play a critical role in supporting turnaround management, contributing strategic insight to long-range planning for turnaround events, and driving continuous improvement through the development and implementation of effective processes and procedures. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and results-driven professional with a strong commitment to quality and accuracy. The ability to organize and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines is essential. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, a dedication to customer service, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively are also critical for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all major and minor turnarounds at the McPherson Refinery.
- Oversee, plan and coordinate extraordinary maintenance activities
- Develop and implement Safe Execution Plans.
- Organize and plan work scope, scheduling, contracting strategy, coordination of craft labor, and budget.
- Develop total turnaround Plan, which includes cost estimates and overall turnaround duration in days.
- Collaborate with CHS Supervision in Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and EHS, as well as Contractor Coordinators to develop shutdown and startup schedules and ensure well-coordinated execution of TA plans.
- Manage contract labor
- Generate Bid Packages and solicit appropriate Contractors for consideration.
- Analyze and evaluate Contractor capability & recommend selection.
- Ensure contract expectations are met.
- Direct contractor leads
- Direct planning resources
- Assemble and lead cross-refinery turnaround pre-planning and execution teams, including temporary supervisory responsibility for a diverse team of internal employees; leverage skills of refinery personnel and contractors to ensure an efficient and effective turnaround team.
- Provide effective turnaround work processes and training, with appropriate metrics.
- Coach others to identify & resolve key issues impacting TA project schedule, cost, and quality.
- Provide reports for tracking turnaround planning and execution progress.
- Identify Critical Path and Near Critical Path jobs; refine schedules for these and facilitate group schedule reviews.
- Conduct "what if" cases to evaluate critical path risk and to estimate cost and turnaround man hour variables.
- Provide and maintain both long-term and short-term turnaround improvement processes and strategies.
- Ensure effective, accurate budget and cost controls are implemented for turnaround planning/execution.
- Demonstrate strong understanding and commitment to safety and the environment.
- Prepare a post audit of turnaround which compares Actual versus Plan man-hours and costs.
- Maintain standard job plans for future Turnarounds.
- Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- High School Diploma or GED
- 4+ years of expereince in refining or related industry
Additional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Engineering or related 4-year technical degree (e.g. Engineering Technology, Construction Science, or Construction management)
- Experience in turnaround estimating, planning, and scheduling
- 5+ years of experience in Refinery Maintenance or Turnaround Organization
- 3+ years of supervisory experience
- Drafting experience using Auto-Cad
- Contractor cost tracking experience using Track or Kronos Software
- Job task planning experience using Maximo or SAP
- Basic experience in applying the Primavera scheduling tool
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience facilitating cross-functional groups
- Experience with practices relating to contracting and contractor management

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
