Summary
CHS, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Commodity Trader to join CHS Ag in the Dakota Plains region (North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota). The ideal candidate will be able to build effective long-lasting relationships, make decisions, work independently, and be detail oriented with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and have proven leadership capability.
Preferred locations for this position are Kindred, ND; Gwinner, ND; Edgeley, ND; but can be located within the Dakota Plains region of North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota. This is an onsite position reporting to a CHS location.
Responsibilities
- Provide clear direction regarding department and functional goals in coordination with CHS product line/supply chain teams
- Make decisions and work independently as well as positively contributing to a team environment
- Form and execute strategies for positioning, buying, and selling of corn and soybeans in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota in alignment with overall CHS Supply chain strategy.
- Grow the cross-country grain trading platform in the Dakota Plains region
- Monitor and increase asset utilization within the trade geography
- Provide exceptional customer service by being the first point of contact with the consumer/user and in some cases utilizing divisional marketing resources
- Resolve issues and disputes with accounting, transportation, shippers, and buyers/end users
- Maintain existing customer base and identify, develop, and build new opportunities in partnership with Go-To-Market teams
- Develop the annual business plan, budget, and forecast
- Develop team members through the sharing of knowledge and ideas and by providing clear direction of goals
- Manage supply chains in the region
- Perform market analysis and formulation of corresponding commodity position strategy
- Work closely with product line team members, region leadership, accounting, freight desks, and the hedge desk in exchange of information
- Monitor the macro-trends of financial markets and the global economy that can impact the respective commodity prices in the short, medium, and long-term
- Communicate bid changes and closing bids to customers
- Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations
- Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions
- Perform other responsibilities as needed or assigned
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- High School diploma or GED
- 4+ years of experience in Trading, Supply Chain and Procurement and/or Commodities
Additional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Accounting, Business, Economics, Finance, Statistics, or related field.
- Understanding of commodity markets and trading principles
- Must be able to read and understand a daily position report (long & short)
- Working knowledge of NGFA contracts and futures exchange rules
- Excellent analytical and decision making skills
- Global experience working with international teams with Spanish, Portuguese, or Mandarin speaking skills a plus
- Experience managing a P&L
- Ability to adapt to fast changing environment

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
