Senior Director, Environmental Health & Safety

Summary
The purpose of this position is to lead, mentor, and manage the environmental, health, and safety (EHS) function for the global Agriculture Business Unit and be a member of the Ag Business leadership team to empower the journey towards EHS excellence.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic EHS Leadership for Ag Business:
- In collaboration with the EHS governance teams, lead the design and execution of EHS policies, programs, and initiatives to reduce EHS risks and meet domestic and international regulatory requirements in safety and environmental.
- Ensure that the Ag Business EHS approach is aligned with the CHS EHS strategy, goals, and objectives and advances toward the Vision.
- Inspire and influence continuous improvement in the reduction of exposure. Shephard innovative solutions and emerging best practices.
- Monitor and manage EHS metrics. Ensure data integrity, visualization of performance, compliance monitoring and action.
- Anticipate future needs and regulatory changes.
Lead the planning, development, and implementation of systematic EHS approaches to standards, practices, and initiatives that effectively address the EHS related needs and goals of the Ag business units including oil seed and ethanol processing, grain export, and International (EMEA and South America) supply chain locations in coordination with the larger Ag Sector and corporate function.
Mentor, build and manage the Ag Business EHS function teams. Provide the leadership and direction to help employees be successful in their positions and provide development and growth opportunities. Develop and manage departmental budgets and EHS capital plan.
Actively co-lead Ag Business EHS governance team and be an active member of the CHS EHS working team.
Establish and influence continuous improvement at each location. Manage and address the day-to-day issues and items that arise. Prioritize issues based on seriousness and urgency. Lead serious and potential serious injury investigations for Ag Business.
Interact with regulatory agencies as required.
As Senior Management Team representative within Ag Business, this position has responsibilities for being involved and working on higher level business unit initiatives that are outside the position’s primary area of responsibility within EHS.

Successful leadership experience with multifacility responsibilities. Successfully led diverse teams that delivered results.
Working knowledge of EHS requirements, systems, and approaches.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
15+ years of relevant manufacturing experience.
Ability to work in industrial locations.
Ability to travel up to 40% throughout the U.S. and global footprint.
Additional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental health and safety, industrial hygiene, or engineering.
- Advanced degree in relevant field.
- Professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), certified leadership coach, or equivalent are preferred.
- Success working as an EHS leader with multi facility responsibility in the ag processing, ag export, chemicals, refining, utilities, or related supply chain.
- Success leading both centralized and distributed teams.
- Success working in a large matrixed organization.
- Success working Internationally.
- Success applying behavioral science principles to strengthen culture and performance.
- Success applying human and organizational principles to strengthen culture and performance.
- Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
