DOT Safety Specialist

Summary
The DOT Safety Specialist will champion safety and compliance across our Transportation and Logistics- South Region. This role involves planning, directing, and implementing safety activities to promote health and safety in the DOT space. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing safety plans, conducting training, performing audits and inspections, and investigating incidents to identify root causes and recommend preventative measures.
The territory this individual will be covering includes South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Western IA. Our ideal candidate will sit within the region and have the ability to travel (up to 25%) to locations within the territory.

Responsibilities
- Support emergency response efforts as necessary, maintaining a clear understanding of Incident Command protocols
- Ensure adherence to relevant regulatory frameworks (CFR, HAZMAT), especially regarding safety and hazardous materials handling
- Assist in fostering a positive safety culture, supporting the application of Human Operational Performance principles and Just Culture values
- Coordinate compliance with all applicable Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) related requirements (federal, state, local, and company).
- May assist more junior team members in work activities.
- Develop and implement of EH&S related plans, programs, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct effective EH&S related training for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Conduct complex EH&S related audits, workplace inspections, job safety analysis, and maintain detailed recordkeeping.
- Provide first aid for minor injuries and coordinate prompt medical attention for more serious injuries.
- Conduct complex accident investigations, manage worker’s compensation process, and return to work program.
- Communicate EH&S related requirements and expectations to other departments and personnel to ensure regulatory compliance and a safe work environment.
- Properly respond to day-to-day EH&S related issues in a timely and efficient manner.
- Keep current on all applicable EH&S related rules and regulations
- Perform other responsibilities as needed or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- High School diploma or GED
- 4+ years of experience in Environmental, Health, and/or Safety
Additional Qualifications
- Ability to travel- up to 25%
- Familiarity with or experience in Emergency Response protocols and an understanding of Emergency Responder Incident Command
- In-depth knowledge or experience with the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Parts 371-399 and Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) regulations Parts 171-180
- A general understanding of Human Operational Performance (HOP) and Just Culture would be highly desirable
- Agriculture background, facility operation, and management experience
- Experience in the inventory management process
- Ability to complete OSHA 30 hour construction training certification program
- Bachelor's degree preferred in Occupational Health, Environmental Health and Safety, or related field

Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb ladders and operate equipment is needed to inspect facilities
- Ability to work in dusty and adverse and changeable weather conditions

Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
