Summary

CHS has an exciting opportunity at our Oil Refinery facility in McPherson, Kansas. We are looking for a Project Engineering Mechanical Field Coordinator with a focus on planning, coordinating, scheduling, performance tracking, and directing contractors throughout the construction phase of projects engineered by the refinery engineering department. You must be detail oriented with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble construction packages for work to be performed by contractors including work scope descriptions and detailed drawings prepared by engineering.
  • Prepare inquiry packages from which contractors would prepare proposals or bids for performing the work.
  • Conduct Pre-Job Meeting with successful contractor and plant personnel to review project work scope, schedule, safety, work conditions/restrictions and work rules.
  • Ensure that all construction activities are performed per plant and industry safety policies and standards.
  • Work with safety personnel to develop and track construction safety metrics.
  • Analyze and evaluate contractor bids and make recommendations to plant engineering staff for selecting contractors to perform construction work.
  • Act as first point of contact of assigned contractors to discuss conflicts that arise in the field.
  • Supervise contractors during the construction phase for projects designed by engineering.
  • Coordinate with contractors to ensure successful completion of maintenance, operations and engineering driven expense and capital projects.
  • Respond to maintenance driven emergent construction work as required to ensure continuous operation of refinery.
  • Document and report construction statuses for projects from start to finish utilizing construction management software.
  • Collaborate with QA/QC and Inspection departments to ensure all QA/QC requirements are met and documented.
  • Assist with project walkdowns and punch list tracking.
  • Work with contractors and engineering to ensure "As Built" revisions are made on the drawings when the project has been completed.
  • Maintain frequent communication with all disciplines and levels of personnel within the refinery.
  • Perform other duties, as requested.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 4+ years of maintenance or construction experience in a refinery or chemical plant.

Additional Qualifications

  • 10+ years of construction management experience in a refinery or chemical plant.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent training/education.
  • Leadership experience in a construction management role.
  • Experience negotiating change orders, conflict resolution, and problem-solving complex issues.
  • Experience with construction management software.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and Navisworks modeling software.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering plans.
  • Knowledge of structural steel and pipe fabrication construction and inspection techniques.
  • Experience managing multiple jobs/projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in managing contractors.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team player with proven leadership skills.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Software including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.

Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
