Summary

The Procurement Specialist in Lewiston, ID, will be responsible for managing grain procurement and merchandising activities in alignment with company policies and profitability goals. This role involves coordinating grain movement, storage, and grading across elevator facilities, while maintaining strong communication with general managers and traders to monitor grain positions. The specialist will implement marketing programs, educate employees and patrons on cooperative operations, and stay informed on market and crop conditions to mitigate risk. Key responsibilities include managing freight logistics (barge, rail, and truck), overseeing grain inventory and hedging strategies, and fostering relationships with producers and industry partners. The ideal candidate will have over 7 years of experience in supply chain or procurement, strong negotiation and analytical skills, and preferably a bachelor's degree in a related field. This position requires a deep understanding of commodities, risk management, and supply chain operations to support CHS’s business growth and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Merchandise overall grain positions in accordance with company policy.
  • Implement and administer marketing programs with Go to Market employees and patrons.
  • Coordinate movement of grain, receiving, grading, loading, and storage among elevator facilities to maximize profitability and meet objectives of General Manager.
  • Communicate with general manager and traders on grain positions
  • Keep abreast of market conditions and area crop conditions to minimize exposure and maximize profitability.
  • Educate both employees and patrons in the operations of the cooperative and CHS business objectives to enhance employee effectiveness and improve member relations.
  • Assist in developing budget & asset needs, manage approved operating budget.
  • Apply understanding of various commodities, accuracy of trading terms, risk measurement, profit and loss analysis, and futures hedging.
  • Coordinate with internal and external customers to grow CHS business in a profitable manner, manage risk, reduce cost and determine the best sourcing options.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key industry leaders, strategic community partners, and be involved with industry associations.
  • Supply Chain Management: procure and manage barge, rail, and truck freight for business unit
  • Procure grain from area producers
  • Oversee grain inventory/DPR and hedging to manage risk effectively and in compliance

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • 7+ years of experience in Supply Chain and/or Procurement

Additional Qualifications

  • Subject matter expertise in procurement process and risk management exposure
  • Agribusiness and/or grain marketing experience
  • Persuasive negotiation skills
  • Excellent organizational, decision making, computer, and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Business, Economics, Manufacturing, Logistics, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Statistics or related field

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
