Summary

CHS has an exciting opportunity within our Energy Refinery, Pipeline, and Terminals division. We are looking for a Pipeliner who will be responsible for the safe and efficient performance of all processes and equipment assigned to the Pipeline Maintenance team located in Billings, MT. You must be a detail-oriented, results-driven individual with a commitment to quality, accuracy, and the ability to organize and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work in both a team environment and on self-directed tasks are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Operate truck, tractor, backhoe, excavator, rubber-tiered hoe, air compressor, crane, and other engines that may be used for maintenance.
  • Perform general labor duties (tank cleaning, rough carpentry, painting, digging, loading trucks and/or cleaning of equipment and material), in connection with pipeline maintenance, repair, and minor construction.
  • Assist others (welder, operator, technician, etc.) as needed.
  • Clear rights-of-way as directed using handheld power equipment.
  • Learn various Maintenance and or Operations duties.
  • Train to perform line locations and respond to locate requests.
  • Create, complete, and close work orders.
  • Train on and perform emergency response duties as directed.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and repair tasks on equipment as required.
  • Travel and work extended hours as needed to meet business demands.
  • Perform other duties needed or assigned.
  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • High school diploma
  • Class A CDL driver’s license
  • 1 plus years of pipeline operations experience
  • Experience safely running and operating machinery such as excavators, rubber-tired backhoes, and cranes. The candidate will be required to demonstrate their ability to safely operate this equipment.

Additional Qualifications

  • Welding degree or API 1104 welding certification.
  • Pipeline operations and/or other petroleum industry operations.
  • Training/Experience in rotating equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Training/Experience in miscellaneous valve maintenance and repair including control valves.
  • Computer experience with Windows-based programs

Training Provided and Required:

  • Technician Level HAZWOPER training
  • Operator Qualified training
  • CHS Pipelines and Terminals emergency response training

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, climb stairs continuously, climb ladders, and work at heights up to 65ft.
  • Open and close pipeline valves, up to and including sixteen (16) inch diameter valves; attach and/or detach flexible hoses up to and including four (4) inches in diameter.
  • Lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to fifty (50) pounds. 
  • Hearing and eyesight must be adequate as well as a sense of smell to detect and recognize the odor of Hydrocarbons to help maintain a safe work environment.
  • Able to wear and work in personal protective equipment, including respirator.
  • Ability to work inside and outside in all weather conditions.
