Rail Capacity Planning Manager

Summary
CHS has an exciting opportunity in our Transportation division. We are looking for a Rail Capacity PlanningManager to complete our team. This role will lead a team of rail specialists that support rail planning and operations across all commodities and rail program types (ie., shuttle, unit train, and manifest). It’s imperative to have a strong customer focus with excellent communication skills and a solution mindset, including the use of data-based decision-making. Success will come from an ability to influence internal customers, external partners, building relationships, and leading continuous improvement efforts.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of rail experts who oversee railcar capacity and pipeline management, incl. grain shuttle, unit train, and manifest railcar network and ensure the success of our rail network of 350k+ shipments annually
- Develop department plans and resource management while ensuring team goals/priorities are aligned with enterprise transportation and product line strategies and goals.
- Implement programs to reduce costs associated with demurrage, storage, diversions, fleet cycle times, and fleet size optimization.
- Support the implementation of internal automation and rail technology solutions
- Develop and improve rail performance measurements (KPI’s in PowerBi dashboards)
- Collaborate with other functional areas (Trading, Sales, Plant Operations, Finance/Accounting, HR) on department plans and initiatives.
- Understand the "why" behind the "how” and can solve problems using business data and acumen as well as supplier partner relationships.
- Identify opportunities for coaching to maximize job performance and career progression.
- Has good working knowledge of daily operations SOPs and can execute job tasks as a manager.
- Make sound decisions/judgments in identifying the problem's root causes and develop corrective action to eliminate or significantly reduce the issue's reoccurrence.
- Maintain positive working relationships with carriers, vendors, suppliers, and customers.
- Responsible for managing relationships with mid-level management of carriers, vendors, and suppliers.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- High School diploma or GED
- 4+ years of experience in Supply Chain and Procurement and/or Transportation and Logistics
- Prior leadership experience with progressively advancing level of leadership responsibilities
Additional Qualifications
- Rail Transportation management and/or operations experience.
- Ability to build relationships across business and customers.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and time management skills.
- Good coordination and organizational abilities.
- Strong decision-making skills.
- Ability to collect, analyze, and evaluate data.
- Experience working with Microsoft Systems, including PowerBi.
- Prior rail management experience, including use of rail technology
- Experience leading team of remote, hybrid and on-site employees
- Ability to work in a Matrix Organization.
- Bachelor's degree preferred in Business, Systems Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, or related field

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
