Procurement Manager- Rail Freight

Summary
CHS is offering a new position within our Enterprise Rail Transportation team. We are seeking a Rail Freight Procurement Manager who has experience in leading a team to secure reductions in freight costs through rail freight rate negotiations and optimized routing. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal stakeholders and railroads to identify market programs that promote growth for CHS. Additionally, this role will oversee third-party rail rate technology providers and participate in projects aimed at driving efficiency through automation and integration.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with commodity traders and leadership to identify trade opportunities; proactively utilize these insights to inform railroad discussions and negotiations.
- Lead a team of rail rate sourcing specialist who create detailed analysis and negotiate rates that create financial benefits for product lines
- Guide and teach newer analyst using rail rate knowledge and expertise
- Coordinate and lead meetings with railroad representatives and internal stakeholders
- Review regional and commodity-based rate dynamics and develop proposals in coordination with Ag Retail contacts.
- Manage contract rates and review public tariffs in Tratics.
- Maintain accurate rate and route tables in SAP and JDE for assigned commodities.
- Investigate, contest, or negotiate miscellaneous charges and inaccurate rail invoices.
- Ensure allowance and incentive claims are filed and paid; create visibility and KPI's associated to these metrics
- Communicate broadly with stakeholders on rate changes, incentive offers and accessorial schedule adjustments
- Provide expert guidance to CHS commodity managers on various rail activities Lead the deployment and enhancement of rail technology systems.
- Apply curiosity to seek out solutions and address root cause problems. Foster a culture of innovation and creativity in data analysis, problem-solving, and presenting solutions.
- Uphold and promote a strong safety culture by adhering to all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in addressing unsafe actions or conditions.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- High School diploma or GED
- 4+ years of experience in Supply Chain and/or Procurement
- Prior leadership experience with progressively advancing level of leadership responsibilities
Additional Qualifications
- Experience with PowerBI creation, JDE, SAP, Tratics and Kaleris
Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Access and Excel, AS400
Rail rate sourcing and routing experience
Bachelor's degree preferred in Business, Economics, Manufacturing, Logistics, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Statistics or related field

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
