Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager

Summary
CHS, Inc. has an exciting opportunity within our energy division, supporting both our Lubricants and Propane business units. We are seeking an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to oversee EHS operations at three lubricant plants located in Inver Grove Heights, MN; Amarillo, TX; and Kenton, OH, as well as six wholesale propane terminals in Hixton, WI; Glenwood, MN; Hannaford, ND; Yuma, CO; and Carrollton, MO. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations and implementing best management practices.
The EHS Manager will partner closely with the directors of lubricants manufacturing and propane operations to develop and execute top-tier EHS systems, standards, and practices. In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to influence and drive EHS excellence across multiple locations and business units, fostering collaboration and ensuring consistent standards and practices.
The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, detail-oriented, results-driven individual with a commitment to quality, accuracy and the ability to organize and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a strong commitment to customer service and the ability to work in both a team environment and on self-directed tasks are necessary.
This position is based at our Inver Grove Heights, MN lubricants plant.
Responsibilities
Promoting Safety Culture
- Act as lead and work with all business units on the continuous process of planning, developing, implementing, and sustaining world class safety culture improvement initiatives customized to the current and unique needs of the facility locations being represented.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Keep current on all applicable EH&S related rules and regulations.
- Identify and communicate workplace hazards.
- Correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions in the workplace.
- Communicate EH&S related requirements and expectations to other departments and personnel to ensure regulatory compliance and a safe work environment.
Technical Support
- Research and be current on regulatory requirements and best management practices within required fields of expertise (e.g. emergency management/crisis management, incident investigations, EHS train-the-trainer, contractor/construction safety, and occupational safety and health) and provide technical support to all business unit facilities as needed.
- Develop local, state and federal regulatory programs (FRP, SPCC, HAZMAT) as applicable to each location.
- Train the pertinent staff and submit appropriate reports to the agencies. Interact with regulatory agencies to assure CHS is complying with all regulations.
Audits/Inspections/Investigations
- Within required fields of expertise, conduct audits of business unit facilities to verify compliance with regulatory requirements, business unit standards, etc.
- Generate findings reports and coordinate corrective actions.
Perform additional responsibilities as needed or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- High School diploma or GED
- 7+ years of experience in Environmental, Health, and/or Safety
Additional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Management, Safety Engineering, or related field
- 7+ years of experience preferred in environmental and safety management including managing tasks and implementing programs for federal and state regulatory compliance
- 5+ years of experience in the following preferred:
- facilitation/training in safety, health, and security regulations/topics supervisory/managerial experience
- OSHA 501 General Industry Trainer Certification Emergency Responder/ Lay Responder Instructor
- Advanced working knowledge in environmental and safety management, process safety, emergency management/crisis management programs and emergency responder training programs
- Ability to develop training programs and instruct groups on various safety and security topics
- Demonstrated ability to serve as a resource to the organization’s management team
- Excellent interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching and development skills
- Ability to establish key performance indicators for self and teams and develop programs to meet those indicators
- Ability to create and update SDS (Safety Data Sheets) for lubricants and propane energy groups Federal and state regulatory knowledge, including OSHA, EPA, DOT as well as other industry standards and advisory agencies, including NFPA, NIOSH, ANSI, National Safety Council and ASIS International
- Pre-employment screening is based on the job requirements and industry guidelines and may or may not be required for the position. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications.
