Financial Accounting Intern

Summary

CHS has an exciting summer internship opportunity in our Global Grain & Processing Financial Accounting group. This position will play an active role in the month-end close and financial reporting process. The internship will provide real-work experience and mentoring from CHS professionals to prepare for a career in accounting, while being part of a broader intern cohort program with other peers.The candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical and critical thinking, close attention to detail, experience using spreadsheets, and general accounting knowledge.  The ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines, complete assignments independently, work effectively in multiple information systems, and take initiative in learning new tasks or researching questions is critical to the success of the position.

Responsibilities

• Record journal entries in the general ledger.
• Complete monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
• Perform ad hoc accounting tasks, analysis, and reporting.
• Prepare audit documentation for external auditors.
• Participate in continuous improvement projects. 
• Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
• Proficient in Excel

Additional Qualifications

• Previous internship experience
• Knowledge of SAP, JDE, or BPC
