Summary
CHS has an exciting opportunity in our Propane Supply group. We are looking for a Director of Propane Supply to provide strategic leadership and operational direction for production, procurement, transportation logistics, forecasting and economics related to wholesale Propane business unit. You must be highly motivated, entrepreneurial, innovative and detail oriented with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. You must have strong analytical, organizational and people management skills.
This role is a hybrid out of our global corporate headquarters in Inver Grove Heights, MN.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic plan for propane supply chain, distribution, analytics, and pricing that optimizes product placement, minimizes inventory costs, and provides consistent, reliable product availability.
- Build strategic long-range plans for development and execution of asset development, negotiations, acquisition, and operations.
- Be accountable for expenses, movements, forecasting, procurement, sale, delivery, and receipt of propane associated with pipelines and terminals.
- In partnership with sales leadership, provide strategic vision to the propane wholesale sales team. Support the development and execution of strategies, programs and tactics that meet the long-term growth objectives of the propane business unit, create value, and ultimately increase sales and margins.
- Collaborate and negotiate daily with internal and external customers to ensure consistent propane supply to all customers.
- Maintain and enhance professional relationships with industry contacts. Explore, develop, and negotiate with counter parties for opportunities that enhance economic value for meeting customer demand.
- Analyze market trends that assist in predicting growth opportunities and margin enhancement.
- Oversee economics team and pricing strategy.
- Develop a high performing team through professional development of employees, creating a talent pipeline and succession plan. Cultivates an environment of high engagement, transparency, and teamwork.
- Build and maintain collaborative, team-oriented relationships with business partners in operations, transportation, trading, marketing, finance, and human resources to ensure strategy execution.
- Evaluate and analyze potential asset capital projects consisting of terminals, pipelines, rail and other companies.
- Work with peer group(s) sharing talent strategy and defining logical career paths. Implement a culture of change management that will motivate employees and teams to embrace the company’s strategies and performance goals.
- Participate and where appropriate provide leadership on board of directors for National Propane Gas Association, Propane Education & Research Council and State Executive Associations. Serve as Cooperative and Independent customer’s liaison/advocate on these associations.
- Champion and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- High School Diploma or GED
- 7+ years of progressively responsible business experience to include:
- Strategic leadership and management experience
- Commodity risk management, supply chain or operations experience
- Strategic planning
- Prior leadership experience with progressively advancing level of leadership responsibilities
Additional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Supply Chain or equivalent preferred
- Prior leadership experience with progressively advancing level of leadership responsibilities
- Propane/NGL industry experience in the wholesale and retail levels
- Proven ability to develop and motivate talent & build high performing teams
- Commodity risk management experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of commodity supply chains
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across varied stakeholders
- Proven ability to lead within a matrix-managed environment
- Knowledge of and experience in Cooperative model/system
